Day 11Sprint 2 • EF Core & Database
2 Hours

Day 11: Introduction to Entity Framework Core 9 & Database Modeling

Entity Framework Core (EF Core) eliminates the pain of writing raw SQL strings inside your C# applications. Instead of managing database connections, writing INSERT/SELECT queries manually, or mapping SQL tables into objects, EF Core does the heavy lifting automatically.

Understand what an Object-Relational Mapper (ORM) is in plain simple English
Install Microsoft.EntityFrameworkCore and Microsoft.EntityFrameworkCore.SqlServer
Create entity model classes (Customer, Order) with primary keys and relationships
Build your first DbContext class and configure connection strings

Core Architectural Insights

  • An ORM bridges the gap between C# object-oriented code and SQL relational database tables
  • DbContext is the gateway class representing a session with your database
  • DbSet<TEntity> maps directly to a physical database table in SQL Server
  • LINQ queries written against DbSet are converted into optimized SQL queries automatically

Real-World Developer Analogy

Imagine ordering food from a restaurant in a foreign country. You speak English (C#), and the chef speaks Italian (SQL). EF Core is your expert personal translator who translates your English order into perfect Italian culinary instructions and brings your food back directly onto your plate.
