🌟 Everyday Applications & Biological Importance

Alcohols, phenols and ethers are the basic compounds for the formation of detergents, antiseptics and fragrances, respectively:

Alcohols ➔ Detergents & Solvents
Ethanol (C₂H₅OH)

• Ordinary spirit used for polishing wooden furniture is chiefly ethanol (C₂H₅OH).
• Industrial precursors for biodegradable surfactant detergents.

Phenols ➔ Antiseptics & Disinfectants
Carbolic Acid / Phenol (C₆H₅OH)

• Exhibits powerful antimicrobial & germicidal properties.
• Primary active agent in household disinfectants, soaps, and pharmaceuticals.

Ethers ➔ Fragrances & Perfumes
Alkoxy & Aryloxy Derivatives

• Pleasant aromatic qualities and stable non-polar solvents.
• Used extensively in flavorings, perfumes, and anesthetic formulations.
